During my graduate studies I found that I was often performing time consuming manual work to search through RNA sequences to find locations where the RNA sequence could bind to itself. A core part of this work was dealing with mismatches of 1-2 base pairs that do not prevent the RNA-RNA binding interaction from occurring.
Rather than performing many hours of tedious manual work, I recognized that software could be developed to solve this problem. I collaborated with a developer to create a web app that generates the possible sequences that could bind with the sequence of interest while accounting for possible base pairing errors.
